‘The Parent Trap’ Cast Was Iconic! See Photos of the Film’s Stars From Then and Now

Portraying two characters in one film is no easy task. However, Lindsay Lohan was able to pull off the roles of twins Hallie and Annie in the 1998 adaptation of The Parent Trap. More than two decades later, the film’s stars have definitely gone through some major changes in life and their careers.

Released 37 years after the original film first hit the big screen, the dynamic cast was able to put a new spin on the classic story of the twins’ switcheroo. Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson starred as Nick Parker and Elizabeth James in the romantic comedy. The pair played former lovers and parents of Hallie and Annie who were separated once the couple divorced.

The cult classic does have a happy ending, with the couple reconciling and getting their family back together. The nostalgic tale earned Lindsay a Young Artist Award. It was just one of many movies she shined in during the late ‘90s and early 2000s. The film grossed over $11 million in the U.S. and Canada in its first week, per IMDb.

The movie also starred Elaine Hendrix, Lisa Ann Walter, Simon Kunz, Ronnie Stevens and Maggie Wheeler. While the success of The Parent Trap is certainly something worth celebrating, the cast faced a devastating tragedy in 2009. Natasha died two days after sustaining a head injury during a ski trip.

The Broadway star was married to Liam Neeson at the time of her death, and the pair welcomed two sons together, Micheál and Daniel. Dennis was devastated by Natasha’s passing. In a September 2018 interview with Us Weekly, the Emmy nominee expressed his grief nine years after losing his beloved costar.

“Now you hit my heart. She was such a beautiful person, such a beautiful, beautiful person. Just none of that, that actor stuff, prima donna stuff,” he said at the time. “Someone easy to work with and such a great sense of humor.”

Dennis went on to say that the English actress “had a smile on her face when she came to work” which is something that “really affected everyone around her.” Natasha’s legacy lives on in her incredible work and her two children. Micheál has gone on to pursue an entertainment career of his own, appearing in films like Anchorman 2 and Cold Pursuit
