It’s only been a year since Debra Messing finalized her divorce from ex-husband Daniel Zelman, and the actress is already back in the dating game! “There is someone in her life whom she likes a lot [but] she thinks that marriage is an antiquated institution,” a friend recently told Closer. Debra’s 16-year marriage to Daniel — who works as an actor, screenwriter, television producer, and director — sadly ended in divorce in March 2016. The couple previously met while graduate students at New York University back in 1990 and married in September 2000. The Will & Grace star and the 50-year-old welcomed their only child, son Roman, in April 2004.

Thankfully, Debra’s friend said the exes have a “good and peaceful” co-parenting relationship today. “Roman is always the focus for both of them. They all want the best for each other,” the insider told us. Since her split with Daniel, Debra’s acting career has also experienced a resurgence as it was recently announced that Will & Grace is returning to NBC this fall.

“I never stop. I work all the time. I’m always involved with something,” the star recently admitted, adding that the most important lesson she’s learned is “knowing your limitations… it took me a long time.” Though she’s a busy working mom, Debra still always carves out time to spend with Roman, 13. “I never spend enough time with my son. Never. I always want more,” she has said. “They’re very close. He’s a character! For his summer camp, he went to a stand-up school, so he was entertaining all of us. You can see Debra is just so proud of him,” the Emmy winner’s hairstylist, Luke O’Connor, told Closer.

With her showbiz career now keeping her busier than ever, Debra has confessed it’s difficult to balance everything. “I am a success when I feel like I have a balance of the things that are important to me. The times when I was not happy or not fulfilled were when I was neglecting certain parts of myself, whether it was neglecting to be a great mom or being completely there at work. It’s an act of balance,” she said.
