Yikes!David Schwimmer on His ‘Friends’ Fame — “It Made Me Want to Hide Under a Baseball Cap”
David Schwimmer is getting candid about his iconic role on Friends.
In a new interview, the 49-year-old actor — who portrayed Ross Gellar on the show from 1994 until 2004 — admitted he wasn’t a fan of the fame that came with starring on the popular series for 10 years.
“As an actor, the way I was trained, my job was to observe life and to observe other people, so I used to walk around with my head up, really engaged and watching people,” he told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, Aug. 15. “The effect of celebrity was the absolute opposite: it made me want to hide under a baseball cap and not be seen.”

David noted the role negatively impacted his personal life as well. “I realized after a while that I was no longer watching people; I was trying to hide,” he added. “It was pretty jarring and it messed with my relationship to other people in a way that took years, I think, for me to adjust to and become comfortable with.”
