Congratulations are in order! David Foster got engaged to his girlfriend of over a year, Katharine McPhee, on Sunday, July 1, the singer just confirmed on Instagram with a photo of a text conversation.

“He did it at the top of this mountain in Anacapri,” she said of the special moment. “Totally dark only stars,” Katharine continued before jokingly adding, “Thankfully he didn’t push me off the cliff. He said it was one or the other and in the end he spared me.”

This won’t be the first marriage for either party. David was married four times before: to B.J. Cook from 1972 until 1981, to Rebecca Dyer from 1982 until 1986, to Linda Thompson from 1991 until 2005, and to Yolanda Hadid from 2011 until 2017. Katharine was previously hitched to Nick Cokas from 2008 until 2016.

As In Touch previously reported, David was “so smitten” that he wanted to propose to his much-younger girlfriend Katharine after just six months of dating even though he ended up waiting longer. “They’ve tried to keep their romance on the down-low, but they’ve gotten very serious. David’s made it clear that he wants to marry Katharine,” an insider previously said.

Meanwhile, Katharine has always been interested in tieing the knot with David, especially because she wants a baby! “[Katharine] wants a child with David,” a source told In Touch. “David is different than any other guy she’s dated before. He’s a gentleman and has a life. She also finds him very attractive and would love for her kids to have his looks and confidence.”

She also knows David will be a good dad (he’s already a father to eight kids)and doesn’t want to waste any time. “She’s practically begging David to make her a mom,” says the source, “and he’s all for it.”

And while a baby for the two would be nice, we just can’t wait for David and Katharine’s wedding — and for a picture of the ring!
