Victoria Beckham Says Meghan Markle “Looked Beautiful” Even Though She Didn’t Design Her Wedding Dress

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham and husband David Beckham attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s May 19 nuptials — and now the fashion designer is sharing her sweet opinion on the royal wedding.

For starters, she told the Evening Standard on Wednesday, May 23, that she thought Meghan “looked absolutely beautiful” in her Givenchy gown even though Victoria wasn’t the one to design the dress. She added, “It really suited her. I thought it was perfect for her. And Harry looked great.”

On top of that, Victoria really enjoyed being a part of their special day. “It was just the best day. They looked so happy, and everybody was just so happy for them,” she added. “Meghan seems like a genuinely lovely woman, who really loves him. It felt very real, very honest.”

Just a few weeks before the wedding, the designer appeared on James Corden‘s The Late Late Show to promote her latest collaboration with Reebok. But there was only one question on everyone’s lips at the time: had she received an invitation to the event of the year? When asked if the A-list couple would attend the royal wedding, she stumbled over her words.

“I, uh, I… I don’t know,” she replied. To which James teased: “She’s totally going.” And Victoria eventually caved into the rumors, as the 43-year-old replied: “Yes. England is so excited. It is so great, isn’t it? They look so happy.”

Victoria reportedly became close friends with Meghan shortly after she relocated to the UK and the former Suits actress regularly seeks sartorial advice from the designer. A source told Vanity Fair: “Meghan really likes Victoria’s style and was keen to pick her brains about pulling together a working wardrobe.” They continued, “She loves Victoria’s elegant but smart dresses, so expect her to wear one very soon.” Though it’s hardly surprising, as the royal-to-be donned a cashmere sweater by the designer’s eponymous label in the couple’s engagement photographs.

Fans weren’t too surprised to see Victoria and David at the nuptials considering they attended Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding back in April 2011. At that event, though, Victoria was pregnant with the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Harper. However, Victoria donned navy blue to both royal outings!

“Quite honestly, it was such a relief not to be hugely pregnant at this royal wedding that it was a joy to be able to choose anything I wanted to wear,” Victoria added of her attire at Meghan and Harry’s event. “I love a bit of navy. The dress is one of my favorites: it isn’t in store until November, but we’ve had so many inquiries about it that I’m seeing whether I can bring it forward.” We think she looked fabulous that day!
