He’s launched a second career as a professional wrestler, but when it comes to co-parenting his 14-year-old daughter, Coco Arquette, with ex-wife Courteney Cox, David Arquette feels no need to grapple. “Divorce is so painful for everybody involved — it’s a waste of time and money [to fight],” he exclusively told Closer Weekly at the recent Be Social for Justice Gala in NYC. “Anybody who’s going to put on boxing gloves when they get a divorce is making the wrong move.”

David, 47, and Courteney, 54 — who divorced in 2013 after almost 14 years of marriage — fell in love on the set of 1996’s horror click Scream, yet they’ve always used their inside voices around their daughter. “We just respect each other,” said David. “No matter what people go through, you still have a child together.” David also told Closer that “it’s important that your child knows you respect each other.”

Both David and Courteney have moved on romantically. She’s been in a long-term relationship with rocker Johnny McDaid, and he has two young sons with his second wife, former Entertainment Tonight correspondent Christina McLarty. Courteney wishes them well: “When you love someone, you want them to be happy, even if its not with you.”

As for Coco, “she loves her brothers,” said Christina. “They couldn’t ask for a better sister.” And Coco may be following in her parents’ footsteps soon. “She just started high school — ahhhh! — and she’s doing plays, ” David proudly said. “Coco has far more confidence than I ever had. She definitely got that from her mom.”

She also inherited her mother’s kind disposition. “Coco is so sweet — as long as you raise a child with a good heart, that’s all you can do,” gushed David. “It’s a wild world out there. You’ve just got to help your kids through it, you know what I mean?” We’re glad to see that David and Courteney can set aside their differences for the sake of their daughter!
