Cressida Bonas Is Sick of Being Known as Prince Harry's Ex-Girlfriend

If you’re going to chuck into a bucket a group of problems, being the ex-girlfriend of Prince Harry would probably be brimming at the top of our dream list. Well, it is a reality for Cressida Bonas and the stunning beauty is frankly, a little over it. The couple famously met each other through Cressida’s bestie and the royal’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, dating from 2012 to 2014.

The 28-year-old bared all in a very honest interview with the BBC’s Woman’s Hour radio show on Tuesday, Aug. 8. “I think it’s that thing of being pigeonholed. Especially in [England], I feel people are very quick to put you in a box or put you in a corner and think, ‘Oh, well, you’re that so you must be that,'” she explained.

Cressie says while their time together was lovely, the consequence of being a prince’s girlfriend does overshadow you. “It’s incredibly frustrating, especially in the industry that I’m in,” she said. “But you know, it is the way it is.” During their time together, royal fans were certain Harry had found the one, with talks of marriage running rampant.

Cressida’s brother Jacobi Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe was quick to put out those embers, telling the Evening Standard in 2013, “It’s challenging, you can’t deny it. It’s not something that is easy for anyone dating a royal or marrying into the family or anyone in the royal family themselves. I think on some level it is different to any other type of fame.”

The following year, in April 2014, a friend of the family announced to Us Weekly that the fifth in line to the throne and Miss Bonas had officially ended their romance. “It’s very sad that they have decided to split. It’s very amicable, but they have decided to go their separate ways,” the source revealed.

And it would seem both have found what they’re looking for. Cressida has thrown herself into the arts, taking to British theatre portraying Sonia Orwell, the second wife of George Orwell, in a new London stage play, Mrs. Orwell. While Prince Harry has found his happily ever after, dating Suits actress Meghan Markle.

Chelsy Davy

The two had an on and off relationship from 2004 until finally calling it quits in 2011.
