In the new issue of Closer Weekly, Connie Britton opens up about why she couldn’t turn down being a part of Showtime’s SMILF. With roles on shows ranging from Friday Night Lights to Nashville, Connie has always been busy, but now she’s been juggling parts on two current series, Fox’s drama 9-1-1 and SMILF, with her job as a single mom to son Eyob, 7.

Connie says she identifies with creator-star Frankie Shaw’s take on single motherhood. “Frankie’s commentary about some of the ways you feel confined as a single mom is just dead-on,” Connie, 51, exclusively tells Closer. “I pull from my own experience.”

But Connie’s most treasured role is at home. “He’s awesome,” she gushes of Eyob. “He’s turning into a really great human.”
