Fans may know him as an Oscar-winning director and iconic actor but, to his kids, Clint Eastwood is something else entirely. “He’s just my dad,” Alison Eastwood, the 89-year-old’s daughter, exclusively told Closer Weekly in the magazine’s latest issue, on newsstands now.

“He yelled at me when I was bad and did horrible things, which I did from time to time,” the 47-year-old Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil actress added. “And he was really sweet and supportive when I was doing great things.”

While he may have played a gun-toting man who laid down the law in countless Westerns, Alison noted that “he’s way laid-back” in the real world. “Probably too laid-back. Don’t tell him, though!” she joked about her father.

It seems as though this was true for him when it comes to all 8 children he has helped bring into this world — including Alison plus Laurie, Kimber, Kyle, Scott, Kathryn, Francesca and Morgan. “His hands-off style of parenting is the same for all his kids,” an insider revealed to Closer. “His fans see a different side of Clint, and that’s how he likes it.”

Alison, upon sitting in the director’s chair for the first time, got some sage advice from her mentor. “He has a dry sense of humor, so his biggest piece of advice for me as a director was, ‘Make sure you get a lot of sleep, because you’re going to need it,'” she shared. “He did tell me, ‘Believe in what you’re doing, as opposed to changing your mind or being wishy-washy.'”

Now that they have both gotten older — Clint is begrudgingly set to turn 90 in May 2020 — Alison revealed how their bond has changed from her younger years.

“We’re good friends. We laugh a lot. Now we can talk about directing, acting, the business, and we both love animals,” she gushed. “We have a lot to share. And we still do Thanksgiving together!”
