Christie Brinkley Tearfully Admits She Was ‘Totally Shocked’ by Wendy Williams’ Claim She Faked ‘DWTS’ Injury
Yikes! Just hours after Wendy Williams speculated Christie Brinkley of faking an injury so her daughter, Sailor Lee Brinkley-Cook, could replace her on this season of Dancing With the Stars, the beloved American supermodel opened up about the famous TV host’s claims.
“I’m totally shocked, because I have been there for Wendy Williams. That is so weird,” the 65-year-old beauty — who was originally set to appear in Season 28 of DWTS before breaking her arm — admitted to People while bursting into tears. “I have to give her a call … I’m really stunned.”
The topic regarding Christie’s situation was brought into discussion on The Wendy Williams Show after the National Lampoon’s Vacation actress announced her exit from the show via Instagram on Monday, September 16. Wendy commented on Christie’s replacement after Good Morning America also aired footage of her injury prior to the dancing show’s premiere that same day.
“She fractured her shoulder and her wrist practicing over the weekend. Well, that looked fake as hell,” Wendy, 55, said in a bombshell statement during her show on September 16. “Let me tell you what I see. What I see is a 65-year-old hot stuff who looks like if you were going to fracture anything, you should have said the tailbone. I don’t see a wrist and a shoulder being fractured, but that was real cute.”
The Ask Wendy author then speculated that Christie allegedly set up her injury so that her 21-year-old model daughter could take her place in the dancing competition. “Here’s my thought, OK. Dancing With the Stars called Christie Brinkley and said, ‘Do you want to do Dancing With the Stars?’ And she said, ‘Yes,'” Wendy explained. “After she got off the phone, that’s where she plotted her scheduled [injury]. She signed up knowing that she put her daughter in there. You know her daughter is beautiful.”
Wendy continued, “Sailor is a Sports Illustrated model, but that’s not like being Kendall Jenner — supermodel of the world. In order for girls to get this leg up, it takes more than beauty. You have to have cash. There’s a lot of eyeballs watching, and Christie really doesn’t need that.”

Although Wendy seemed convinced Christie is faking her injury, the blonde beauty couldn’t have been more heartbroken when announcing her sad news. “Shattering my arm was quite literally a crushing disappointment, I never ever want to let anyone down,” the Vegas Vacation actress — who is also the mom of Alexa Ray Joel, 33, and Jack Paris Brinkley-Cook, 24 — wrote just hours before she was set to dance onstage.
Luckily, Christie “looked for a silver lining” and was convinced she “found one that is solid gold,” she wrote while confirming her daughter would take her place. “Sailor always meets her challenges head on and realized she did not want to be defined by her fears,” she continued in her Instagram post. “So with just hours to learn my routine, she is turning my defeat or should I say two left feat [sic] into her own victory of courage! … And Sailor, thank you for taking a very disappointing turn of events into something very special!”
Be sure to catch Sailor on Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars airing on ABC every Monday, at 8 p.m. ET!
