Chip Gaines Says He’ll Only Do Another TV Show in the Future If It’s Without His Wife Joanna Gaines

Fans were bummed when they learned Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines cancelled Fixer Upper after five seasons, and they’re going to be even more bummed when they hear this. During Chip’s visit to Today on Tuesday, Oct. 17, he candidly responded “Who knows?” when asked if he’d ever do another TV show.

But, he’d return to the small screen under one condition: if it’d be without his wife! “It would have to be a show where it would be me, just all by myself — that could be a thing that I would be interested in,” Chip said on the talk show. So weird…

However, Chip has clearly got the need for speed, as he has a new gig off-the-air following the sad Fixer Upper news. In an interview with Texas Motor Speedway’s website, the 42-year-old opened up about his upcoming role in the AAA Texas 500 race. “I’m honored to have been invited to drive the pace car in November, but I can’t promise that I’ll pull over after the first lap,” Chip joked. “And growing up in Colleyville, this might actually be the first time I don’t get in trouble for speeding in Roanoke,” he added, referencing his Texas hometown.

According to the announcement, Chip will participate in several pre-race events before leading the group of 40 drivers to the starting line when the race goes down on Saturday, Nov. 5. The TV personality’s exciting news came days after he and Joanna, 39, opened up about their decision to walk away from their hit reality series. In a video posted on their blog, the couple explained that spending more time with their kids was a major factor.

“Our beautiful children are growing up so quickly…So I think [it’s] the idea that we kind of need to step back and just get [a] fresh vision. We need to get some rest, but also just hunker down with our kiddos,” Joanna — who shares Drake, 11, Ella Rose, 9, Duke, 8, and Emmie Kay, 7, with Chip — said. “It’s something that we’re excited about, but also sad that this chapter of our lives is coming to an end.”

Though Fixer Upper is almost over — Season 5 will wrap up early next year — Chip and Joanna are still keeping busy with other entrepreneurial endeavors. The celeb contractors are working on a lifestyle collection with Target are are writing a cookbook together titled Magnolia Table Cookbook.
