Long before the days of Meghan Markle, Prince Harry had another true love — and her name was Chelsy Davy. The royal dated the blonde beauty on and off again from 2004 until 2011, but so it turns out, Chelsy allegedly dumped Harry because of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.

The two wed in April 2011, and Chelsy was Harry’s date to the special event. However, it was there where she reportedly realized it wasn’t going to work out between them. Journalist Angela Levin penned in her royal biography, Harry: Conversations with the Prince, that all the attention Kate and William got that day proved to Chelsy she couldn’t be the wife of a prince.

“A friend revealed that seeing the enormity and pomp of the day convinced Chelsy that she and Harry had been right to separate,” she wrote. “Although they had a lot in common, she saw clearly that because they came from such different worlds it could never have worked, especially as she valued her privacy and guarded it so carefully.”

Five years later in 2016, Chelsy publicly admitted how “crazy and scary and uncomfortable” the spotlight was to her. “I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope,” she once shared with The Times.

But Chelsy seemingly didn’t hold it against Harry. In fact, the two remained friends after their 2011 breakup — and she even attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding on May 19.

However, a report from Vanity Fair claimed the special event marked the end of their friendship for obvious reasons. “It was their final call, a parting call in which they both acknowledged Harry was moving on,” a source told the magazine. “Chelsy was quite emotional about it all, she was in tears and almost didn’t go to the wedding. In the end, she went and promised Harry she wouldn’t try and gatecrash the party.”
