Céline Dion is back to performing after a year-long hiatus to care for her cancer-stricken husband, René Angélil.

Before returning to her Las Vegas residency last evening, the singer, 47, held a press conference to open up about her 73-year-old spouse’s ongoing battle with throat cancer. “The meaning of the songs have a new meaning now,” she said. “I sung them, but now I mean it. To me they’ll be different songs. To you, maybe not.”

“My three children and my husband wanted me to be here tonight,” she told reporters, before addressing René, who was watching from home. “Just enjoy, just enjoy. I love you.”

In March, the “My Heart Will Go On” songstress confessed René had been diagnosed with throat cancer in December 2013 and is now using a feeding tube. This is former singer and manager’s third bout with cancer.

“I am scared of losing him, because it’s bad,” Céline told People earlier this year. “But I have to show myself, my husband and my kids that I’m strong and we’re okay.”

Céline and René married in December 1994 and are parents to three sons, René Charles, 14, and twins Eddy and Nelson, 4.
