CBS Shares Gripping Details About ‘Tracker’ Season 2 Finale, Teases ‘Shocking Family Secret’

The Tracker season 2 finale is several weeks away, but CBS has already shared a snippet of what’s to come in the episode. The episode titled “Echo Ridge” is set to air on May 11.

The logline says “Colter returns to Echo Ridge to investigate a diner owner’s disappearance, only to uncover a decades-old kidnapping and a shocking family secret, on the season two finale of the CBS Original series TRACKER, Sunday, May 11 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs).”

The episode was directed by Ken Olin and written by Elwood Reid, per the press release.

Family secrets have been a big theme of the season, as Colter Shaw has continued to search for answers about the murder of his father, Ashton Shaw. Perhaps in the episode, he will get one step closer to finding out the truth about what happened to his dad the night he ran into the woods and was found dead.

So far, we’ve seen flashbacks from the night that Cotler’s life changed when he discovered his dad’s dead body. But still, it seems the killer is at large after Colter’s older brother, Russell Shaw, denied having any involvement. Their mother, Mary Shaw, has been the subject of many fan theories about what really happened to Ashton.

Justin Hartley, who plays Colter, previously hinted that Ashton’s murder will likely remain unsolved after season 2. But viewers can probably expect some more major clues to be dropped about that tragic day and what really happened.

“I don’t like the idea of wrapping things up in a pretty little bow just for the sake of the fact that it’s the final episode of the season, and so we write to the plot so that everyone’s like, oh, great, everything’s perfect and fine, and we can go and make a third season,” Justin told TV Insider in a February 16 interview. “I don’t really like that idea. I’m not really interested in that. I’m more interested in propelling the story in a way that makes sense, and if it ends up being four episodes or 44 episodes or 144 episodes to tell the most compelling story, then that’s what it is.”

“Not just trying to get more episodes in the bag or trying to finish a story in time,” he added. “I think there’s a beautiful way to tell a story in sort of the best way, and I think that’s what we should do. And all the writers are on board with that, too, everyone wants to do that.”

CBS confirmed that Tracker has been renewed for season 3, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Ashton’s murder is also a big subject of that season as well. Still, season 2 has been full of thrills and fans can’t wait to see how everything wraps up in the finale.

“Who’s [sic] else is excited that tracker already got renewed for a third season by CBS and season 2 of tracker isn’t over yet,” one person wrote in a comment underneath a promo for season 2, episode 14, of the show on YouTube.

“Season 2 is amazing!!” another person said.
