Carrie Underwood Reveals How the Birth of Her Second Son Improved Her Mindset: ‘Be Kind to Yourself’
Growing as a person. Carrie Underwood has been quite open about her pre and post pregnancy, recently revealing just how tough the birth of her second son, Jacob Bryan, truly was.
“After having my first kid [Isaiah, 4], I felt like I bounced back fast. And then with Jake, it was like my body took a minute to get back to me. It was frustrating, because I’m like, ‘Why wasn’t it like the first time?’” the 36-year-old told People at the CALIA by Carrie Underwood winter getaway in Aspen.
“But I’m four years older. That also helped me shift my mindset — I’m still working hard, wanting to be the best me possible, but cutting myself slack and just thinking, ‘Be kind to yourself.’ It’s amazing what we [women] do to ourselves. We’re probably all our toughest critics,” the singer continued. However, there is another thing thing the American Idol alum touched on: how much a certain term irks her.
“I don’t like to call them ‘cheat days’ — you’re just enjoying life,” the Grammy winner explained to the outlet. “I feel like holiday time can be stressful when it comes to health and fitness, but it doesn’t have to be. You can just say, ‘I’m going to enjoy myself on the holidays.’“
“It’s all about friends and family and food and parties, and indulging responsibly,” the performer added. “And when New Year’s is over, get back on the horse. It’s like, ‘Okay, I’ve had my holiday fun. Now it’s time to get back on my path.’“ So true!
Carrie shares her two songs with her husband Mike Fisher. This isn’t the first time that the hitmaker has touched on her pregnancies — she once revealed how exactly she stayed on the course after giving birth by letting everyone know her gym secret.
“Putting together a fashionable but also functional outfit gives me a little boost when going to the gym — especially when I need an extra push or I’m not feeling my best,” Carrie explained. “I try to put a cute look together with my favorite pieces — a legging with a pattern on the bottom and cute and comfortable tank and a zip-up hoodie to complete the outfit.”
We’re just glad to hear Carrie is in the right mindset again!
