Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher’s Marriage: Fun Facts

A match made in heaven! Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher have been living a life of wedded bliss ever since they tied the knot in 2013. The country music star and the former professional hockey player, who began dating in 2008, are also parents to their two kids, Isaiah, and Jacob Fisher.

The couple became first-time parents when they welcomed Isaiah in February 2015. “I have a 4-year-old who’s, like, a schmoozer,” the “Cry Pretty” songstress joked to Entertainment Tonight in June 2019. “He knows the right things to say and he’s so cute about it and he knows how to get, … not get what he wants, but a little bit. And he’ll totally [work it], especially with girls, he’s so sweet.”

Carrie and Mike’s brood got a little bigger after she gave birth to Jacob in January 2019. The “Before He Cheats” singer, who was very vocal about infertility and miscarriages in the past, gushed about the magical feeling of giving life to another child.

“Jacob Bryan Fisher entered the world in the wee hours of the morning on Monday, [January 21] … his mom, dad and big brother couldn’t be happier for God to trust them with taking care of this little miracle!” Carrie wrote on Instagram at the time. “Our hearts are so full, our eyes are tired and our lives are forever changed. Life is good.”

Becoming parents of two has changed the dynamic of Carrie and Mike’s relationship. They had to learn how to “embrace” their different parenting styles and work together for their kids. Since Carrie is “liberal and progressive” and Mike is “conservative,” it took a little bit of getting used to, a source previously told Closer. But thanks to their ability to compromise they became even better parents than before.

“Mike loves having two little boys to run around outdoors and to teach sports. And motherhood has fulfilled Carrie and keeps her feeling grounded,” the insider said. “The boys are their world and they always say how happy they are as a family of four — but they’d happily welcome more babies!”

Until their third child comes along, Carrie and Mike will continue to learn and grow with each other.

Carrie Didn’t Initially Want to Go on a Date With Mike

In 2008, Carrie’s bass guitarist, Mark Childers, wanted to set her up on a blind date with Mike. However, Carrie wasn’t drawn to the idea considering Mike was living in Canada at the time and she was living in Nashville. “I mean, can I make dating more difficult?” the blonde beauty recalled on VH1’s Behind the Music. “Let’s get a hockey guy who lives in another country. Awesome.”

Instead of going on a typical date, Carrie invited him backstage at one of her shows and she admitted that the attraction was almost instant. She immediately texted her bandmate and let him know that she thought Mike was “hot, hot, hot.” So funny!

They Had to Wait Three Months to See Each Other Again

Following their backstage meet-and-greet at one of Carrie’s shows, the now-married couple had to wait three months to see each other again. Carrie and Mike would often talk on the phone until they reunited for New Year’s Eve in New York City in 2008, where the couple shared their first kiss. By the end of 2009, Carrie and Mike got engaged, even though they were still carrying on a long-distance relationship.

Mike kissed his native Canada goodbye and said hello to Tennessee, where they now live with their two kids, after he was traded by the Ottawa Senators. “I was praying a few days before about [moving teams],” the handsome hunk once said. “I was just so frustrated and said ‘God, if you have me go somewhere take care of it, look after it,’ and he sure did that. He put me in a place I was comfortable with and I think that’s part of the reason that this is the place I’m supposed to be.”
