Brooke Shields' Kids: Daughters Rowan, Grier With Chris Henchy

If you’re wondering why Brooke Shields loves being a mom so much, it’s because she was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Rowan Henchy and Grier Henchy. The Endless Love actress has been doting on her children ever since she first experienced motherhood nearly two decades ago.

Brooke shares her amazing family with her longtime husband, Chris Henchy. The iconic actress and the American screenwriter tied the knot during a romantic ceremony in 2001. Less than two years after their wedding, the couple’s first child, Rowan, arrived in 2003. Daughter Grier was later born in 2006.

Throughout the years of her Hollywood career, Brooke has done all she can to juggle her professional responsibilities and time with her husband and kids. However, she once opened up about the “moment where [she] realized” she wasn’t spending enough days at home with Rowan and Grier.

“I wasn’t putting my kids to bed at all. When you’re doing theater it’s almost impossible to put them to bed, and it really threw me for a loop,” the Jane The Virgin alum told Parents. “I have to work so when I’m not working, it’s easy to get caught up and say, ‘Oh, I’ll do that charity, or I’ll do that thing for you.’ And your kids are with the babysitter and it’s heartbreaking.”

Fortunately, Brooke has found a way to manage her busy schedule. Though it’s common to feel overwhelmed at times, the legendary model said she’s learned to embrace her flaws as a working mom.

“I would have thought that I would have become one of those parents — just because it’s my nature to be such a perfectionist — that anything falling short, I would have seen as a failure,” she once told People. “But something has happened to me over the past few years … I’m so appreciative of even the chaos. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being engaged.”

Aside from being always present for Rowan and Grier, Brooke makes sure to focus her time and energy on her TV producer husband. After being married for 20 years, a source close to the lovebirds dished how they continue to make it work.

“[Brooke] is very un-Hollywood. She and Chris have a great relationship,” an insider exclusively told Closer in May 2018. “Their kids come first, and they do all the things normal families do.”

Much like Brooke, Rowan and Grier also have a great sense of humor! When the siblings asked their mom why she never cooks, she had the funniest response.

“I’m sorry, I’m busy doing Christmas movies for you to watch,” the model said during a December 2022 appearance on The Rachael Ray Show. Chris usually takes on the cooking responsibilities for the family of four during the holidays each year.

Rowan Francis Henchy

Brooke and Chris’ first daughter was born on May 15, 2003. Although Rowan is just a teenager, she already shows an interest in following in her mom’s Hollywood footsteps. Despite having yet to make her acting debut, Rowan has been featured on Brooke’s Instagram page while singing, proving she has a voice of an angel.

Aside from appearing at red carpet events and on the Pretty Baby star’s social media, Rowan enjoys pranking her famous mother on TikTok. In fact, Brooke shared the most hilarious video of her eldest daughter smacking her in the face with a backpack.

“So, apparently this was for a TikTok … utter disbelief!!” Brooke captioned the post in May 2020. The mother-daughter duo also teamed up for a laugh-worthy rendition of them singing a Mamma Mia! song in their bathrobes a few weeks earlier. “Finally getting the hang of this! Swipe to see the outtake,” Brooke wrote alongside the clip.

While it seems Rowan has a future in showbiz, she’s currently focused on her education. In August 2021, Brooke and Chris dropped their first child off at college. Upon moving their daughter into her dorm at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Blue Lagoon star marveled over the emotional milestone.

“My unique and extraordinary baby girl spreading her wings. I love you so. We are so proud of you,” Brooke captioned several pics from Rowan’s dorm room. “This was the saddest drive away from anywhere I’ve ever had to make. But my baby is BEGINNING one of the most important adventures of her life to date … NOW!”

Grier Hammond Henchy

The Golden Globe nominee welcomed baby No. 2 when she gave birth to Grier on April 18, 2006. Like her older sister, the sweet teenager often makes appearances on her mom’s social media accounts. Whether they’re smiling for a cute photo or sharing a fun moment, there’s no doubt Brooke shares an amazing bond with her child.

The Suddenly Susan actress even once revealed how she’s instilling confidence in her teenage daughters. “It’s [teaching them about] finding your power and finding your strength but owning it and owning it honestly and purely and not having to fight others necessarily for it,” she shared with Closer. “Just the presence of it in who you are is what I try to teach them.”
In September 2021, Grier joined her mother at Ferragamo’s Spring ’22 fashion show. The youngster has an interest in the fashion world and has the perfect role model to look up to when it comes to putting together incredible outfits.
“I am excited to attend these fashion events, seeing all the amazing outfits and experiencing more in the fashion industry,” Grier told InStyle at the time.
She also admitted to shopping in her mother’s closet for cool pieces to add to her collection. Over on her Instagram account, Grier shows off some of her fashion looks, like the pink sequined dress she wore for her 15th birthday in April 2021.
