Moving on after Luke Perry‘s tragic death hasn’t been easy for anyone — but it sounds like former Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Brian Austin Green is still very much grieving the loss.

“Luke was a special guy. I’m still mourning over it so there’s a part of me that’s kind of shocked that I’m speaking about Luke this way,” the 45-year-old said in the March 14 episode of his podcast, which was dedicated to the late Riverdale star. “We all knew that at some point we’d have to deal with losing cast members and friends — but not this soon. Not at 52. Not in such an abrupt way.”

This came just 10 days after Luke died at the age of 52 on March 4, never recovering from the massive stroke he had just 5 days prior. Per a statement from the late actor’s rep, Luke was surrounded by friends and family — including fiancée Wendy Madison Bauer and his two children — when he died.

“Luke was one of those people nobody had a bad story about,” Brian continued, joining the likes of other 90210 alums — such as Shannen Doherty, Jason Priestley and Tiffani Thiessen to name a few — who posted tributes in honor of their pal. “He was just a great guy and he was Luke no matter where you saw him, no matter when you saw him, no matter what he was going through. He was a rock.”

Brian revealed that the 90210 cast came together to mourn over Luke and there were “mixed emotions.” He said “you were happy to see everybody” because so much time had passed but they realized “what a horrible reason to have to see everybody.” In addition, Brian also tried reaching out to Luke himself.

“I texted him after he passed, knowing obviously that he can’t text me back but, on some level, hoping that he would text me back or that he was out there somewhere,” Brian heartbreakingly revealed, noting their brotherly bond they shared. “And I know he is. I know he’s looking down and I know he’s smiling.”
