Bono’s 4 Children Are the Best Thing About Him! Meet the U2 Singer’s Adult Kids With Wife Ali

He’s known to fans as Bono, but U2 frontman Paul David Hewson — yes, that’s his real name — is also the loving dad of his four adult children, Jordan Hewson, Eve Hewson, Elijah Hewson and John Hewson. When he’s not rocking the stage alongside his bandmates, the iconic Irish singer-songwriter is spending time with longtime wife, Ali Hewson, and their beloved kids.

Bono became the dad of his eldest daughter, Jordan, in 1989. The “With or Without You” crooner, who tied the knot with Ali in 1982, welcomed their second daughter, Eve, in 1991. The Hollywood lovebirds expanded their brood with the birth of son Elijah in 1999, followed by youngest son John’s arrival in 2001.

Considering Bono’s late mom, Iris Hewson, died in 1974 when he was just 14 years old, the singer said he felt lonely at times growing up. In fact, the venture capitalist once insisted it wasn’t until he and Ali’s eldest daughter was born that he experienced the joys of family.

“The house … it was just that. It was no longer a home for me,” he shared with the Huffington Post while doing a joint interview with Jordan. “And I guess U2 kind of became that surrogate family. I’ll be honest with you: I’ve only really ever understood the feeling of home when you entered my life.”

The “Beautiful Day” performer also recalled the moment he witnessed his first-ever birth. Bono revealed that at the time, he brought a portable tape recorder to the hospital and planned on recording Jordan’s heartbeat as she was in the womb.

“I was going to make a song recording your heartbeat as the rhythm. And I noticed the heartbeat going slower,” he told his daughter, noting the nurse first shrugged it off before his wife’s doctor noticed something was wrong. “You were rushed into existence. They suggested that you should be near my heart or your mother’s heart. You were so vulnerable, five pounds. So you slept on my chest for two weeks.”

While Bono can still clearly remember the day he welcomed his children, it’s been quite some time since Jordan, Eve, Elijah and John were little babies. Not only are the Golden Globe winner and the Irish activist’s kids all grown up, but they’re also following in their dad’s famous footsteps.

Ali opened up about Elijah’s up-and-coming music career and said she wouldn’t be surprised if her eldest son paved a career in showbiz like his iconic dad. “Possibly, possibly, we will see,” the businesswoman told the Irish Mirror in March 2020. “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Whether or not Elijah establishes a rock ‘n’ roll status like Bono, Ali told the outlet it’s “great to see” her kiddo follow his dreams, as well as the rest of the duo’s brood. “I am just so happy for them, each one of them,” the proud mom continued. “You just hope they find their way.”
