Bono's Kids With Wife Ali Hewson: Meet Jordan, Eve, Elijah and John

He’s known to fans as Bono, but U2 frontman Paul David Hewson — yes, that’s his real name — is also the loving dad of his four adult children, Jordan Hewson, Eve Hewson, Elijah Hewson and John Hewson. When he’s not rocking the stage alongside his bandmates, the iconic Irish singer-songwriter is spending time with longtime wife, Ali Hewson, and their beloved kids.

Bono became the dad of his eldest daughter, Jordan, in 1989. The “With or Without You” crooner, who tied the knot with Ali in 1982, welcomed their second daughter, Eve, in 1991. The Hollywood lovebirds expanded their brood with the birth of son Elijah in 1999, followed by youngest son John’s arrival in 2001.

Considering Bono’s late mom, Iris Hewson, died in 1974 when he was just 14 years old, the singer said he felt lonely at times growing up. In fact, the venture capitalist once insisted it wasn’t until he and Ali’s eldest daughter was born that he experienced the joys of family.

“The house … it was just that. It was no longer a home for me,” he shared with the Huffington Post while doing a joint interview with Jordan. “And I guess U2 kind of became that surrogate family. I’ll be honest with you: I’ve only really ever understood the feeling of home when you entered my life.”

The “Beautiful Day” performer also recalled the moment he witnessed his first-ever birth. Bono revealed that at the time, he brought a portable tape recorder to the hospital and planned on recording Jordan’s heartbeat as she was in the womb.

“I was going to make a song recording your heartbeat as the rhythm. And I noticed the heartbeat going slower,” he told his daughter, noting the nurse first shrugged it off before his wife’s doctor noticed something was wrong. “You were rushed into existence. They suggested that you should be near my heart or your mother’s heart. You were so vulnerable, five pounds. So you slept on my chest for two weeks.”

While Bono can still clearly remember the day he welcomed his children, it’s been quite some time since Jordan, Eve, Elijah and John were little babies. Not only are the Golden Globe winner and the Irish activist’s kids all grown up, but they’re also following in their dad’s famous footsteps.

Ali opened up about Elijah’s up-and-coming music career and said she wouldn’t be surprised if her eldest son paved a career in showbiz like his iconic dad. “Possibly, possibly, we will see,” the businesswoman told the Irish Mirror in March 2020. “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

Whether or not Elijah establishes a rock ‘n’ roll status like Bono, Ali told the outlet it’s “great to see” her kiddo follow his dreams, as well as the rest of the duo’s brood. “I am just so happy for them, each one of them,” the proud mom continued. “You just hope they find their way.”

Jordan Hewson

While her dad paved an epic career in music and showbiz, it seems the twosome’s eldest daughter, Jordan — who was born on May 10, 1989 — seems to enjoy filling in her mom’s activism footsteps.

In fact, Jordan is an activist and entrepreneur based in New York City. After leaving her family’s home in Dublin, Ireland, to study at Columbia University in New York City, Jordan has come a long way and has become quite successful.

Most notably, she is the Founder of Speakable, which is a company that utilizes technology to make civic engagement easier to be a part of. “We’re proud of the work we do building a successful, human company that makes civic participation a smarter experience,” Jordan’s website reads.

Eve Hewson

Bono’s wife, Ali, gave birth to their second daughter, Eve, on July 7, 1991. Since she was a teenager, Eve dreamed of pursuing a career in TV in film. At the age of 18, she left Ireland to study at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

After earning her degree, Eve went on to act in Hollywood. Following her first major role in 2011’s This Must Be the Place, she portrayed Nurse Lucy Elkins in the Cinemax TV series The Knick. Eve has also appeared in 2018’s Robin Hood, 2017’s Papillon and more.

While once talking about her mom and dad with The Telegraph, Eve revealed she couldn’t share a better relationship with Bono and Ali.

“My dad said he figured out that in order to have a good relationship with your kids, you have to be more fun than them. And it’s true,” she joked. “My parents are way more fun than me and my siblings. We’re always like, ‘What restaurant are you going to? Whose party is that? Can we hang out with your friends?'”

Eve also recalled the one time she ran into her mom during a party in New York City. “I was like, ‘Ugh, I’m trying to live my life in New York and my mother’s here,'” she teased. “But my mum’s actually pretty cool – I’d prefer to go out with her than almost anybody else.”

Elijah Hewson

It only took Bono and Ali two tries before they gave birth to the entertainer’s prodigy when son Elijah was born in August 1999. It appears the handsome kiddo is going after his dad’s goals as Elijah is the lead singer of his pop band, Inhaler.

Although there’s no doubt the “We Have to Move On” singer is destined for greatness, he once revealed Bono and Ali weren’t actually on board with his dreams of being a singer and entertainer.

“At the beginning, they weren’t really. I mean, they wanted me to go to college, you know, like all of our parents,” he once told GQ. “I think they just kind of saw that I loved it and that we were good.”
