Sadly for Blue Bloods fans, only a few episodes remain in the show’s 14th and final season. CBS has finally revealed the air date for the show’s series finale and a special surprise for longtime viewers, which comes after several cast members voiced dissatisfaction in the network’s decision to cancel the series.

The Blue Bloods series finale will air on Friday, December 13, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.

In addition to the final episode, which is sure to be a real tear-jerker, CBS will air the special Blue Bloods: Celebrating a Family Legacy, on Friday, November 29 at 9 p.m. The special episode will look back on the show’s 293 episodes and will be hosted by Entertainment Tonight’s Nischelle Turner.

“The special serves as a love letter to the loyal fans who had dinner with the Reagan family every Friday night and upheld BLUE BLOODS as one of the top series on television,” according to a CBS press release.

The one-hour commemorative special will feature exclusive interviews with the show’s cast and guest stars, as well as behind-the-scenes moments from the program.

“Included in the show is a rare look inside the famous family dinner scene, where viewers learn family dinner secrets straight from the Reagans’ table,” the press release stated. “The special reveals new details about the first time the cast had family dinner during the pilot when they were strangers, and how that transformed the series into the global phenomenon it is today.”

Blue Bloods Series Finale Date Revealed Along With Major Surprise
“New York Minute” – Danny and Baez scrutinize an art gallery suspected of selling counterfeit pieces after a detective investigating the establishment is murdered. Also, Eddie is conflicted when she discovers her former partner turned social worker, Rachel Witten (Lauren Patten), crossed the line to get a mentally ill client much needed help; and Frank is upset when an award Danny was to be honored with is rescinded by Grace Edwards (Lori Loughlin), the widow of an NYPD officer killed in the line of duty, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Nov. 8 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs). “Also, fans hear first-hand from the cast about what it is like filming on the streets of New York City and get a sneak peek at the emotional finale prior to the series send-off,” the press release said.

For those who were still hoping another network would pick up the show or that CBS would come to its senses and renew the show for season 15, it looks like that won’t be happening.

“I don’t quite understand it …? But it is what it is,” cast member Bridget Moynahan, who portrays Erin Regan on the series, told TVLine Spotlight on November 8 of the series ending.

“I mean, we have incredible ratings … and there’s a loyal fanbase that would make the time on a Friday night to sit down and watch it, or make time over the weekend,” she explained. “There’s a younger generation coming in and appreciating the great stories, but also the good values.”

She said that Blue Bloods going off the air will leave a “void” on TV. “You’re hard pressed to find those values in stories on television right now,” Bridget continued.

The Sex and the City alum teased what’s to come in the show’s finale episode.

“I think that fans will feel somewhat satisfied … but then you’re going to want more,” she shared. “There are these nuggets where people are going to be like, ‘Yes!!!’ And then the show’s over. It’s going to be bittersweet in some ways.”

Several of her other costars said the same thing about the episode being very emotional and having some “sad” moments. Cast member Len Cariou said the cancellation “doesn’t make any sense” in a November 1 interview with TV Insider. But at least the series is getting the proper sendoff it deserves.
