Bindi Irwin ‘Feels So Lucky’ to Have Her Health Back After Endometriosis Surgery: ‘Living at Full Capacity’

Bindi Irwin has been celebrating her two-year milestone following SOS surgery, while opening up about how it’s changed her life forever and made her incredibly grateful for the good health and love that she has right now in abundance.

“Bindi suffered with endometriosis for a decade, but after she had her daughter four years ago, things took a turn for the worse and it started to rule her life,” an insider exclusively tells Closer. “She finally got surgery and, although it’s made a world of difference, it’s taken her time to get to where she’s at now.”

Throughout her health journey, Bindi, 26, had the support of her family, including husband Chandler Powell, daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, 4, mother Terri Irwin and brother Robert Irwin.

“She finally feels she is living at full capacity, and she couldn’t be happier,” the source adds. “She feels so lucky she has her health back and now wants to help others going through this. She wants to raise awareness and money; she’s wants to make a difference now that she knows first-hand how debilitating this disease can be. She really went through a very scary time, especially during her pregnancy. Fortunately, she had Chandler to lean on, he was her rock. And her mom and brother were huge helps too.”

Bindi first opened up about her endometriosis surgery in a March 2023 Instagram post, showing a photo of her in her hospital bed.

“Dear Friends, I battled for a long time wondering if I should share this journey with you in such a public space. It came down to the responsibility I feel to share my story for other women who need help,” she wrote. “For 10yrs I’ve struggled with insurmountable fatigue, pain & nausea. Trying to remain a positive person & hide the pain has been a very long road. These last 10yrs have included many tests, doctors visits, scans, etc.”

“A doctor told me it was simply something you deal with as a woman & I gave up entirely, trying to function through the pain. I didn’t find answers until a friend @lesliemosier helped set me on a path of regaining my life,” the conservationist continued. “I decided to undergo surgery for endometriosis. Going in for surgery was scary but I knew I couldn’t live like I was. Every part of my life was getting torn apart because of the pain. To cut a long story short, they found 37 lesions, some very deep & difficult to remove, & a chocolate cyst.”

Bindi said that “things may look fine on the outside looking in through the window of someone’s life, however, that is not always the case. Please be gentle & pause before asking me (or any woman) when we’ll be having more children. After all that my body has gone through, I feel tremendously grateful that we have our gorgeous daughter. She feels like our family’s miracle.”

She encouraged those going through a “similar story” to “keep searching for answers”

“There’s stigma around this awful disease,” the mom of one said. “I’m sharing my story for anyone who reads this & is quietly dealing with pain & no answers. Let this be your validation that your pain is real & you deserve help.”

In January, Bindi revealed that she was able to go on her first big hike after her endometriosis surgery.

“A day spent hiking over 10 miles, across 3 mountains with my best friend,” she captioned an Instagram post. “My first big hike in YEARS since endometriosis took away so much. I cried quite a few happy tears. Endless gratitude in my heart. @chandlerpowell – I’ll remember this day forever.”
