Just hours after Bindi Irwin performed an emotional tribute to her late father, Steve Irwin, on Dancing with the Stars, the teenager took to Instagram to share the final photo taken of herself with her dad before his tragic death.

"The last photo ever taken of us as a family," Bindi, 17, captioned the snapshot. "The day [after] I had to wave goodbye to my hero, without knowing it would be the last time. But Dad, I know you walk beside me always and your strength lives within me. I love you."

In the picture, a young Bindi can be seen smiling while posing next to her younger brother, Robert, now 11, and parents, Steve—who died in September 2006 at age 44—and Terri Irwin, 51.

“I feel like my dad is still with us,” Bindi exclusively told Closer Weekly in a new interview. “I feel closest to my dad when I’m with my family. I think that as a family we try to make sure that his legacy continues. I really hope that Dad would be proud.”
