Hawaii Five-O

"Book 'em, Danno!" For 12 seasons fans tuned in to the Hawaii-set police drama starring Jack Lord, James MacArthur, Kam Fong and Gilbert Lani Kauhi.

In 2010, a new reimagined version of the original series premiered on CBS with the title, Hawaii Five-0 (with the last character a zero instead of a capital letter like the older show). It follows a group of detectives in present-day Hawaii.

Dallas

This long-running, CBS soap opera, which ran from 1978-1991, returned to television in 2012 to critical acclaim, although the show was canceled after three seasons in fall 2014.

The revival was a continuation of the original series, with the story picking-up with the Ewing family 20 years after the 1991 finale.

Parenthood

In 1990, a comedy series based on the 1989 film Parenthood appeared on NBC for one season. While this revival was a failed movie-to-TV adaptation, the show received another remake in 2010.

The new series—starring Craig T. Nelson and Bonnie Bedelia (as parents Gil and Karen Buckman), Peter Krause, Lauren Graham and Dax Shepard—follows an elderly couple, their four children and their families, the same plot-line as the film and original series!

The original, a science-fiction television series about an alien invasion of Earth by a carnivorous race of reptilians called 'The Visitors,' aired from 1984-1985 on NBC and starred Marc Singer and Faye Grant.

In 2009, a remake of the show premiered on ABC with a similar plot and an aim to pay homage to the most iconic moments from the original franchise. Though the new series received mostly rave reviews, it was canceled in 2011 after just two seasons.

Beverly Hills, 90210

The uber-popular original (which quickly garnered a cult-following) followed a group of teenagers living in upscale, star-studded Beverly Hills and starred Shannen Doherty, Jason Priestley Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth. It aired for 10 seasons from 1990-2000.

The revival, which lost the 'Beverly Hills' part of the title, first revolved around students at the fictional West Beverly Hills High School and later followed some of the cast as they moved on to California University, just like the original! The new series, which starred Rob Estes and Lori Loughlin, also featured old cast members in a fun nod to the older show.

Melrose Place

This soap opera, often coupled with Beverly Hills, 90210, followed a group of young adults living in the LA Melrose Place brownstone apartment complex during the 90s. The original ensemble cast featured A-List stars including Heather Locklear, Marcia Cross, Kristin Davis, Alyssa Milano, Lisa Rinna and Kelly Rutherford.

The CW developed a remake in 2009 with the same plot-line as the original, which aired from 1992-1999 on Fox. The revival, which starred Ashlee Simpson and David Cassidy's daughter Katie Cassidy, was canceled after one season despite its promising reception.

Battlestar Galactica

From 1978-1979, audiences were enthralled with this science-fiction series, which followed a distant star system with a civilization of humans living on a group of planets known as the Twelve Colonies. The original starred Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene.

In 2004, the series was reimagined into a three-hour miniseries that was later changed into a weekly show on the Sci-Fi Channel starring Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell. The show ended in 2009 after four seasons, but inspired spin-off TV series' Caprica and Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.

The Rockford Files & Twin Peaks

It was recently announced the hit drama Twin Peaks—which starred Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee and Peggy Lipton—will return to TV in 2016, 25 years after the original ended in 1991.

A remake of the NBC drama The Rockford Files, originally starring James Garner, is also reportedly in the works! In April 2012, it was announced Vince Vaughn will be producing and starring in a theatrical version of the popular show. Here's hoping a TV version hits the small-screen soon!
