Don’t tell Barbra Streisand to slow down, to just to sit and putter. “I can’t retire. How could I? I’m an entertainer, and the world needs an escape from the pressure,” the diva, 76, previously told The Sunday Post. “Even if I thought about it, there is always another phone call asking for another concert or recording.”

Now inspired by her friend Cher‘s new hit record, Barbra is ready to deliver. “I’m back in the studio,” the singer previously announced, teasing a new project she says will be coming soon. “She loves being busy,” an insider exclusively told Closer Weekly — in the magazine’s latest issue, on newsstands now! — of Barbra’s first original album since 2016. “She thought she was OK not recording for a while and taking some time off, but she wasn’t. She was getting bored and couldn’t stand it.”

What will be even more music to her fans’ ears is the fact that Barbra reports she’s at the top of her game. “I’m singing much better than I did on any recent [TV] special,” she insisted in a previous interview with Jamie Foxx. “She has a voice coach that helps her,” the insider added of how Barbra is careful to take great care of her instrument, especially as she ages.

Count on a love song (or two) inspired by husband James Brolin, 78, to make the new CD. “James still worships the ground she walks on,” the insider said, “and he pushes her to artistic places she hasn’t explored yet. He wants her to be fearless.”

With a new film project in the works, too — “I did just sign a contract to direct another movie,” Barbra previously revealed to Jamie — the consummate entertainer is achieving her goal to keep busy, but there’s still one thing Barbra cherishes even more than her career. “Look for her to do some concerts to support the new music, but not a full tour,” the insider said, “because she really hates to leave James at home!”
