She gets the last laugh!

Barbara Walters made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend to defend herself against years of hilarious impersonations and set the record straight before she retires from television on May 16.

The 84-year-old appeared on "Weekend Update" with host Cecily Strong and joked that it has been an honor to watch her "groundbreaking career in journalism" get "reduced to a cartoon character with a ridiculous voice."

When Cecily expressed to Barbara, "You've always been a personal inspiration to me as a news anchor," the legendary journalist retorted, "But I'm a real news anchor."

But when the SNL cast member pointed out, "Oh, but you're a co-host on The View…" Barbara acknowledged, "That's a fair point."

The Emmy winner made sure to give a few tips on interviewing before she left, namely, "Do not be afraid to ask the tough questions."

An example? "If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?" or "Your place or mine, Brokaw?"
