It’s been almost one year since Angelina Jolie blindsided the world by confessing that she and Brad Pitt were going through a divorce; since then, she has kept an incredibly low profile when it comes to her personal life. However, in a new interview — to promote her new film First They Killed My Father — the mother-of-six confessed that being single hasn’t been easy.

“It’s been difficult. I don’t enjoy being single,” she told the Sunday Telegraph. “It’s not something I wanted. There’s nothing nice about it. It’s just hard. Sometimes maybe it appears I am pulling it all together, but really I am just trying to get through my days.”

Earlier this month, In Touch revealed that the 42-year-old’s estranged husband, Brad, apologized to his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston and the two seemingly began to reconcile. “[Brad’s] been determined to apologize for everything he put her through, and that’s exactly what he did,” a source said. “t was the most intimate conversation Brad and Jen have ever had.” When he finally apologized, “Jen was overcome with emotion,” said the source. “All the hurt feelings and resentment she’d supressed for years came flooding to the surface, and she broke down in tears.”

While the insider said that Jen still resents Angelina — and likely always will — when Brad finally apologized to his ex-wife, he didn’t hold anything back, opening the exes up to a new level of emotional connection they previously deemed impossible to achieve. “He apologized to Jen for being an absentee husband, for being stoned and bored much of the time,” the source explained. “He also made amends for leaving her for Angelina.”

Though Angelina’s recent comments have many wondering when she will be dating again, it would appear she’s more focused on her professional life than her personal life. During a Q&A for her film, she revealed that she has a desire to direct again — assuming she finds the perfect film — and plans to return to her acting roots.

“Right now, I don’t have anything to direct that I feel passionate about like this, so I’ll do some acting,” she said. “I’ve taken over a year off now, because of my family situation, to take care of my kids. When I feel it’s time for me to go back to work, I’ll be able to go back to work. I’ve been needed at home.”
