Andy Cohen Used His 50th Birthday Party to Celebrate His Old Life Before Becoming a Father
What a change! Andy Cohen made sure to use his recent 50th birthday party last June to say so long to the life he had been living and say hello to his new one as a first-time father to baby Benjamin Allen Cohen, who was born in early February.
“I lived my life as though it was my last year on the planet,” the 50-year-old told People, adding that he used his birthday celebration as one last hoorah knowing that things were about to shake-up in his life. “[It was my] going away party.”
The Watch What Happens Live host revealed that his surrogate was impregnated just one week before his birthday last summer, which allowed him to not only set the tone for his party but to go out with a bang, too. “There were a group of people at the party who knew that,” he said. “That was absolutely the subtext of the entire affair.” Andy also used the last couple of months before becoming a dad to really get all his fun in.
“I went to London twice. I followed the [Grateful] Dead on tour. I went to Israel for the first time,” he said. “I went to Europe for three weeks. I did things that I just took advantage of every opportunity, so to speak, and it was a joyous, joyous year. I did it really deliberately because I knew that I needed to now hunker down and that I was turning the page on that chapter in my life and that this was going to be great.”
Andy’s son, Benjamin, is less than two weeks old and the TV personality has reportedly been a “nervous wreck” since his little boy’s birth. “Andy hasn’t slept a wink, because he said he doesn’t want to miss anything,” a source close to the Bravo star recently told Radar Online. While Andy may not be getting much sleep these days, the insider said that he adores being a dad.
“When he first held his son, he broke down crying hysterically and still can’t believe that this came true,” the source revealed … “He told one of his friends that he will never need a man agai, because he now has the love of his life.”
