It’s the return that Days of Our Lives fans have been waiting for!

Alison Sweeney has announced that she’s bringing Sami Brady back to Salem for an extended visit! “I’m coming back to Days!” the actress enthused in an Instagram Live video. “I can’t wait — I’m really excited. I’ve missed Sami!”

Alison previously made her Days debut back in 1993 as the mischievous Sami, and the character quickly became a fan favorite. So viewers were devastated in 2014 when the actress announced that after two decades on the soap, she would be saying goodbye to spend more time with her family and pursue other projects.

“I love doing the Hallmark movies,” Alison admitted. “They mean so much to me and I’m so excited to produce them and develop the stories. It’s so incredible. I have some movies coming up later we’re going to be filming later this summer. But you’ve gotta make time for Salem!”

The actress also tried her hand at directing a few times, helming some episodes of the ABC soap opera General Hospital. Whether or not Alison would also be taking a seat in the director’s chair over at Days hasn’t yet been decided. “I’ve been talking to the producers about that,” she revealed, “so we’ll have to see.”

But Sami has always held a special place in Alison’s heart, and she’s really looking forward to coming back home to Salem again. “Thank you so much for asking and pressuring the Days producers into making this happen,” she told fans with a chuckle. “I can’t tell you what it means to me to have your support. I’m honored and humbled and frankly nervous!”

Alison admitted that she’s missed her Days of Our Lives alter ego, but is a little worried about stepping back into the rigorous daytime grind with all the dialogue to learn and fast-paced shooting schedule.

“I’m excited and nervous about it,” she confessed. “Also, there’s a new head writer. Ron Carlivati is going to be writing Sami this time. So that’s going to be new and different. So we’ll see what his take is on Sami and what kinds of shenanigans she’ll get into!”

Unfortunately, although Alison is set to return to the set soon, because Days tapes so far ahead, she won’t begin airing for quite a while. “I haven’t even started filming yet,” she admitted. “I think most people at Days don’t know it yet. I’ll probably start shooting in the next couple weeks, so I think that means it’ll start airing in… October?”

Whenever Alison is slated to make her grand return to Days, you can bet everyone will be tuning in to watch!
