When Alex Trebek met his second wife, Jean Currivan Trebek, more than two decades ago, he never imagined the magical love story they would share. Up until the moment the beloved Jeopardy! The late TV host first met the brunette beauty after the two were introduced by a friend in the late 1980s. Considering it had been nearly a decade since his divorce from his first wife, Elaine Trebek, whom he married in 1974, Alex was open to the idea of falling in love.

After exclusively dating for a few years, the former Classic Concentration star and his love exchanged vows during a gorgeous wedding ceremony in 1990. While recalling the early days of their relationship in his new book The Answer Is … Reflections On My Life, Alex said he couldn’t deny the immediate connection he felt.

“With Jean it just happened,” he sweetly penned. “Sometimes you look at something, you look at someone, and you know. I mean, you’ve heard stories of people who meet and decide within half an hour; I knew this was going to be the person I’d end up with. With Jeanie, that’s how it was.”

In fact, the Wizard of Odds alum knew he couldn’t let Jean go the moment she entered his life. “I recognized at a gut level that here was someone who was going to complete me as a human being,” he added in his memoir.

After walking down the aisle, the lovebirds welcomed their eldest son, Matthew Trebek, the same year. The pair expanded their family when their youngest daughter, Emily Trebek, was born three years later in 1993. Alex also adopted ex-wife Elaine’s daughter, Nicky Trebek.

Alex and Jean have faced tons of ups and downs throughout their marriage, including the TV personality’s heartbreaking battle with stage IV pancreatic cancer. Even though the Emmy Award winner lost his fight against the devastating diagnosis, Jean continued to stick by her hubby’s side.

“Jean is the rock that anchors Alex and he’s grateful every second that she’s in this fight with him,” a source close to the twosome told Closer Weekly in March 2020. “They have a solid connection. It’s a true love story.”
