Can you believe Scandal is airing its 100th episode?

The political thriller’s latest show — “The Decision” — will reimagine history in a flashback episode that will be based in an alternate reality. Viewers will be forced to ponder a major plot point of the hit series: What if Olivia Pope (played by Kerry Washington) never rigged the presidential election?

“Everyone is so different, it’s really extraordinary,” Kerry explained to Entertainment Weekly. “We’re all still the same at our core, but the circumstances of our lives are so different, so it’s a really fun exercise in nature vs. nurture, actually.”

The hit drama is in its sixth season and is a staple in ABC‘s TGIT lineup on Thursday nights. Scandal comes on after the popular medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and before the mystery romance The Catch. Joe Morton — who plays Olivia’s father, Eli Pope — credits the Scandal‘s success to the ongoing drama between the characters.

“Between the politics and between the affairs and… just what goes on within this group of people, on camera, I think that’s what brings [viewers] back,” he said. “It’s a page turner. You want to know what’s going to happen in the next episode.”

So what can fans expect in the upcoming episode? Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant, revealed that the alternate reality will give viewers more insight into his character.

“He’s not the president of the United States,” Tony said. “He’s very different. It’s something of a study of how the circumstances of our lives shape our identity, how we see ourselves, and how we present ourselves to the world. It’s subtle, the difference, it’s just really interesting who he is and what he struggles with. He ultimately is quite different.”

Scandal airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
