Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck starred on 'Blue Bloods' together.CBS Entertainment
If Donnie Wahlberg gets his way, fans will see Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck make an appearance on Boston Blue at some point. Wahlberg recently said he’s confident he knows what it will take to convince Selleck to pop by, and fans are eager to see it happen.
Wahlberg talked to People about the love he has for his Blue Bloods costar. “I want him to be on the show at some point,” Wahlberg insisted. He noted, “I learned so much from him, and I have the utmost respect for him.”
Boston Blue is in its second season on CBS. As fans know, both Selleck and Wahlberg starred in all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, playing father and son pair Frank and Danny Reagan. The series ended in 2024, and Wahlberg now headlines Boston Blue.
Wahlberg suggested, “I know what it will require” to convince Selleck to do the new series. “It’s going to require the most thoughtful, elegant episode that the Brandons [co-creators Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier] and I can pull together.”
He continued, “He will do it, but it has to be something really special, because he takes what he does very seriously. And he takes the legacy of the show seriously. He takes Frank Reagan seriously.”

The Boston Blue star noted that Selleck has been quite supportive of Wahlberg and the new show.
Selleck will want an episode featuring an appearance by him to be “exceptional,” and Wahlberg believes, “when the time is right, we will, hopefully, have something exceptional enough for him.”
Blue Bloods fans who have been watching Boston Blue seem all for it. On Facebook, fans expressed their hope that it actually happens.
One declared, “The sooner the better!”
Another shared, “HURRY!!!!!! UP!!!!!!!!”
Fans have made it clear that they miss Blue Bloods and Selleck, and some seem a bit lukewarm on Boston Blue. If Wahlberg can create an episode that lures Selleck in to guest star on the new show, it seems people will be excited to tune in to check it out.
