Though she’s been happily hitched to Will Smith for more than 20 years, Jada Pinkett Smith admits she got married too young — and hopes her daughter, Willow, will wait until she’s much older to tie the knot!

When asked during a recent interview with Hoda Kotb on her SiriusXM program, The Hoda Show, what she would tell Willow in the future if she wanted to marry at age 25, Jada confidently replied, “Don’t do that! Don’t do that!”

“I’d have to be very careful if she fell in love when I fell in love and had a possibility of getting married. I would just talk to her and say… ‘There’s no rush; there’s a lot of life to live,'” the 45-year-old actress continued. Jada — who tied the knot with Will, 48, back in December 1997 — also admitted she “never” wanted to get married before meeting her now-husband.

Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time the Magic Mike XXL star has revealed she doesn’t want her kids to get married at a young age. “[My marriage] did work out, but let me tell you: It worked out in a way that thank God I had a husband who’s a gangster partner. Taking that road from 25 to [my 40s wasn’t easy],” she told Howard Stern back in 2015.

“We have traveled and you’ve gotta be strong. It takes work… You’ve gotta trust who you’re with,” Jada continued. “And at the end of the day, I’m not here to be anybody’s watcher. I’m not his watcher. He’s a grown man.”

Today, Jada and Will are happily married and recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. “The funny thing about relationships is that it has stages. We’re getting to a place of a new understanding… As you get older, everything is changing. Everything. So there’s a lot of check ins, a lot of redefining,” she told Hoda on Wednesday, July 19.
