In this week’s issue, Closer Weekly goes inside the new Will & Grace reboot — to begin airing this fall — and talks to the cast and crew about how its like they never left the beloved NBC sitcom.
The idea for the reboot was born last year when the cast reunited to film a 10-minute video encouraging people to vote, Luke O’Connor, who was Debra Messing and Eric McCormack’s hairstylist on the original series and has returned along with much of the crew, tells Closer exclusively.
“The actors all love each other and wanted to come back,” O’Connor tells Closer. “It’s like they never stopped working together.”

Afterward, “Megan [Mullally] texted [co-creator] Max [Mutchnick] and said, ‘Why can’t we do the show again?’” reveals O’Connor. “Within five or 10 minutes, he said, ‘We can.’ That got everybody thinking.”
The classic sitcom’s Fab Four – Will (Eric), Grace (Debra), Karen (Megan), and Jack (Sean Hayes) – are not the only familiar faces who will return.

Shelley Morrison, who will reprise her role as Karen’s feisty maid, Rosario, asks Closer, “How often do you get to work with people who are so incredibly talented?”
“I don’t want to do too many episodes,” Shelley says. “I’m used as seasoning. The four of them are really the show.”

“The first time, everything was right,” Jim Colucci, author of Will & Grace: Fabulously Uncensored, tells Closer. “So it’s possible to recapture the magic instead of starting all over with a brand-new concept.”

The word “magic” certainly captures what made Will & Grace so great in the first place. While shooting the sitcom’s second episode back in 1998, “All the actors found their voices, and [director] James Burrows looked at the creators and said, ‘We’ve got a hit!’” O’Connor recalls. “You felt the magic — it was so amazing.”
