When was It’s A Wonderful Life filmed?

This movie truly is a classic, and has stood the test of time. It was originally released in 1946. However, it’s based on a short story by Philip Van Doren Stern called “The Greatest Gift” which was written seven years earlier in 1939. Surprisingly, the film, which was directed by the infamous Frank Capra, was a huge disappointment in the box office at the time, but somehow became a family favorite anyway.

Where does It’s A Wonderful Life take place?

This lovely film takes place in Bedford Falls, NY, however, it is believed to be modeled after Seneca Falls, NY, which Frank visited in 1945. To this day, the town still has a festival to honor the film every December. They also have an It’s A Wonderful Life museum there! However, this isn’t there the movie was filmed. It was actually made on the RKO Radio Pictures Studio set in Culver City, California, and the 89 acre RKO movie ranch in Encino.

Who starred in It’s A Wonderful Life?

James Stewart played the suicidal George Bailey in the movie, while Henry Travers played the angel Clarence. James was also famous for his roles in Rear Window, Anatomy of a Murder and Vertigo, while Henry appeared in Shadow of a Doubt and The Invisible Man.
