All of the Today show hosts always look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on TV, but don't necessarily let their pep fool you — the NBC stars wake up seriously early in order to be prepped, coiffed, and on-camera at such an early hour. At this point, they're all used to it, but man, talk about having to become a morning person! Of course, every host has their own way of doing things, but one thing they all seem to have in common (besides the ungodly hour they wake up) is needing a little time to do some research or set the tone of their day before heading to the office each morning. Oh, and "snooze button" is not part of their vernacular. Scroll down to learn more about the Today stars' daily routines!

Set the alarm

Each Today show host wakes up at a (slightly) different time, but again, they're all up and at 'em before most people have even contemplated turning on their coffee machine. In 2015, when Hoda Kotb was hosting the fourth hour of the Today show with Kathie Lee Gifford, she was up by 4:00 a.m. each day. "I jump up. If I hit snooze it’s 4:05 a.m. By the time I'd get ready to go out, it’s 4:15 a.m. By the time I get back it’s 4:30 a.m. and by that time it’s too late!" she revealed. Disgraced anchor Matt Lauer used to set his alarm for 4:10 a.m. each morning, though we're guessing he's been sleeping in a bit later these days.

In 2014, Natalie Morales confessed that she woke up at 4:05 a.m. on the dot. (“I wake up at 4:05 a.m. because 4 o’clock is too early, 4:05 a.m. is just right.”) The super early birds though, are Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker, who wake at 3:00 a.m. and 3:05 a.m., respectively. “I’m not going to lie," Savannah said. "The alarm hurts." Yeah, we'd say so!

Early to bed

Not surprisingly, because of the early hour they have to wake up, the Today show hosts are in bed pretty early each night. Matt used to be in bed by 9 p.m. when he was an anchor, while Natalie pushed the envelope a little with a 9:30 p.m. bedtime. Al (who wakes up at 3:05 a.m., remember?!) seems to get the least amount of sleep with a bedtime that rarely happens before 10 p.m.

Have a routine and stick to it

Like everyone, the Today show hosts have their morning rituals — they just happen to start much earlier than the rest of ours. For Hoda, the first thing she does each day is walk her dog around the block. Shortly after that, she has some coffee and hits the gym. ("Sometimes I get a green juice in the gym. It’s nasty but I get it. You must!") While she's at the gym, she also reads any show notes that may have come in from producers on the Stairmaster. After she's done working out, she heads to work to get beautified and indulge in some craft service snacks. "After I feel healthy (from the gym), I go into the donut area. Sometimes I walk into the makeup room with an apple in one hand and a whole bunch of little donuts on the other hand," Hoda has said. "I usually try to limit myself to seven. That’s usually the max!"

Savannah also does show prep shortly before waking up. "I do the homework that I have, the preparation I have for the show, in the morning," she told Refinery 29 in 2017, adding that a lot of her research takes place when she's in the makeup chair.

Unwind when it's all over

A perk of starting work so early on in the day is, of course, ending work earlier than most — and not surprisingly, the anchors want to unwind after being awake (and working) for so long. As soon as Hoda is finished filming for the day, she "rips off her dress" and puts on "jeans, a sweatshirt, and comfy shoes" and of course hangs out with her baby daughter, Haley. Savannah takes a similar approach, rushing off to be with her two kids, Vale and Charley, once she's wrapped. Each day, the 46-year-old comes home to have lunch with her daughter before she heads off to preschool. "It’s right in the neighborhood so I walk her to preschool,” she once revealed. “Charley goes down for a nap. If he naps, then mama naps. We try to do a quick family nap in the afternoon." A nap after being up at 3 a.m.? Sounds like a pretty good idea to us!
