What nationality is Hoda Kotb?
Hoda is Egyptian American. Though the TV star was born in Norman, OK and grew up in both Morgantown, WV and Alexandria, VA, her parents — A.K. Kotb and Sameha Kotb — were born in Egypt and immigrated to the US.
Does she have siblings?
Yes! Hoda has two siblings — a brother, Adel, and a sister, Hala.
Where did Hoda go to college?
After Hoda graduated from Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, VA in 1982, she attended Virginia Tech. During college, Hoda was a member of Delta Delta Delta Women's Sorority. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism.
Does she have kids?
Yes! Hoda recently adopted her first child, daughter Haley Joy Kotb. "It's a baby girl! That little girl, Haley Joy... I'm crying... is my daughter! I adopted her," Hoda revealed to her Today co-stars on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
"I wake up sometimes and go, 'Oh my God, I have a baby!' But it feels totally real," Hoda said in a recent interview. "I guess if you’ve been waiting this long for something, and you wish for it, pray for it, hope for it, wonder if it will ever be, and then it happens, nothing’s more real. Nothing."
"It’s one of those things where you think you’ve done it all, you think you’ve felt it all," she added. "But I just didn’t know that this kind of love existed."
Is Hoda married?
No, but she is in a serious relationship with her longtime boyfriend, Joel Schiffman! Hoda and the 58-year-old NYC financier began dating in 2013, recently moved in together, and may get married soon!
"Most likely, they’ll tie the knot by early summer. She is over the moon," a source close to Hoda recently revealed to Closer Weekly. Though Hoda adopted her daughter as a single mom, the Today star just confessed Joel will help raise Haley and the little girl will call him "Dad."
If Hoda and Joel do tie the knot, it would be the journalist's second marriage. She was previously hitched to University of New Orleans tennis coach Burzis Kanga from 2005 until 2007.
Did Hoda have cancer?
Yes. Hoda was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2007 and underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery to treat the disease. In a recent interview, Hoda revealed she is unable to conceive a baby naturally due to her cancer battle, so she pursued adoption to become a mom.
