At 261 pounds, Marianna Masa was concerned her daughters would begin following her unhealthy diet habits.
So the 49-year-old mom began following a strict portion-controlled diet program — and lost an amazing 123 pounds over 14 months!
"The inspiration I received from my daughters has given me a second chance at life. I am proud to say that I have become a good role model of healthy living for my family," the West Harrison, N.Y. resident exclusively told Closer of her weight loss journey.

I was constantly tired and lethargic. I was missing out on fun activities, such as shopping or exercising, with my two daughters. My doctor was constantly asking me to lose weight to improve my health — especially since I have a family history of diabetes and heart disease. While planning my youngest daughter’s Sweet 16 birthday party around 14 months ago, I decided to give her a very special gift — I would become a healthy, energetic mom who would be around for many, many more birthdays. My own mother was obese and died at age 62. I didn't want to miss out on seeing my children and future grandchildren grow up.

I decided to join Jenny Craig because the program offered personalized support from a weight loss consultant. I started meeting with my consultant each week to begin changing my eating habits. Before losing weight, I used to eat fast food all the time and was very sedentary. On this weight loss program, I ate six times a day — three portion-controlled meals and three snacks. The food was delicious and I never felt deprived. I learned to manage hunger and how to prepare some of my own meals using what I had learned about portion control. As I lost weight, I became more confident in my skin and joined a gym. I now take dance exercise classes three times a week!

At first, it was difficult to change my eating habits, but as I lost weight, I began to feel so much better and really enjoyed the program's food. Losing this much weight would have been extremely difficult without the support I received from my consultant and my family. Emotionally, I was ready to make a lifestyle change because I knew if I didn't take care of my health, I might not be around for my family in the future.
The inspiration I received from my daughters has given me a second chance at life. I am proud to say that I have become a good role model of healthy living for my family. Now I have lots of energy and look forward to spending many happy years with my girls and husband!
