When party planner to the stars David Tutera plans a celebrity soiree, he pulls out all the stops. So it’s only natural that he’d make his own home in LA’s Brentwood neighborhood the perfect place to host a gathering.
“This is a great house to entertain in,” David, 49, tells Closer of his new digs. “We’ve had many dinner parties here with our friends and family.” And having been an event planner and designer for 25 years, David certainly knows how to create a stylish atmosphere — both indoors as well as out back near his perfectly landscaped pool area. “We play music and have a fire pit outside that we enjoy sitting around. It’s awesome.”

There are many luxurious touches in the Tuscan villa–style five-bedroom, five-bath home. But when David moved a year ago with his daughter, Cielo, 2, into the home they now share with his partner, life coach Joey Toth, his favorite luxury was space: “The floor plan is very open and inviting — that’s why I love it. And the high ceilings make 6,800 square feet feel that much bigger.”

The decor is decidedly eclectic. “I don’t like a room to look like it’s been cookie-cut out of a catalog,” David explains. Many of the pieces are from family, including the canvas candleholders he repurposed from his grandmother’s globe lamps.

“Candles help me unwind,” says David, who, along with hosting WE tv’s David Tutera’s CELEBrations, has launched more than 20 product lines, ranging from fashion to beauty to tabletop. “Your home is a sanctuary where you can get away from all the insanity.”
David says his design inspiration comes from “all my travels and experiences in life.” And that’s saying
a lot! “Every piece of furniture tells a story. I’m a big Liza Minnelli fan, so I bought a 1920s–1930s art deco buffet that was in Liza’s home.” And the two oversize chairs at his nearby dining table? “Years ago, I was the decorator at the Plaza Hotel in NYC, and these were in the Palm Court — the famous area where tea takes place.”
