It's no secret that Thanksgiving, and the holidays in general, are consumed by food consumption. Watching what one eats is easily one of the most difficult things to do this time of year.

So we asked fitness guru Barry Jay, co-founder of group fitness program Barry's Bootcamp, how to keep off those pesky holiday pounds.

“My tip is indulge! Go for it! For ONE meal on Thanksgiving. Watch the calories on a regular basis and you can afford a hefty dinner," Jay tells Closer.

"However, over-indulgence can make you feel awful afterwards, so go slowly and listen to your body. If you're full don't push it," warns Jay.

"It’s a great idea to start Thanksgiving Day off on the right foot with a high intensity interval workout that incorporates cardio to get your metabolism going, and keeps it going in fat-burning mode, all day long. If you can’t squeeze in a workout, get back in the game on Friday!”

Great advice Barry! After all, Thanksgiving only comes once a year, and we couldn't imagine it without mashed potatoes and gravy!
