During Sunday evening's SNL 40 special, one of the show's beloved former cast members was noticeably missing from the festivities — Tracy Morgan.
According to a source, the show's producers allegedly asked the 46-year-old actor to appear on-air during the broadcast on Sunday, Feb. 15, but the star wasn't prepared to make his TV comeback following a June car accident.
“They really wanted him to be there, but when it came down to it, he just isn’t mentally or emotionally ready to appear on TV yet,” a friend of the star revealed.

Following the incident, the star — who worked as an 'SNL' cast member from 1996 to 2003 — spent 10 days in the ICU before entering a rehab facility for treatment of a severe brain injury. He is now reportedly continuing physical therapy at home.

During the 'SNL 40' special, Tracy's '30 Rock' costars Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin paid tribute to the recovering actor.
"I wish my friend Tracy Morgan was here tonight, and I know he was hoping that he would be well enough to be here too," Tina, 44, said. "We love you."
