So SweetTom Bergeron Leans on His ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Family During Tough Times

It’s been 12 years since Tom Bergeron became the host of ABC’s hit reality show Dancing With the Stars and after more than a decade emceeing the program, the TV star admits DWTS is much more than just a job. In fact, Tom considers his co-workers to be his extended family.

“I love working with smart and funny people,” the 62-year-old said in a recent interview, adding that the DWTS cast has provided him with “immeasurable” support throughout the years. When Tom’s beloved dad, Raymond Bergeron, sadly passed away in October 2015, the host was on the Dancing With the Stars set when he heard the tragic news. “I got a call in the dressing room from my wife,” he recalled, referring to his spouse of 35 years, Lois Bergeron.

Tom explained one of the show’s producers wanted to cancel their dress rehearsal following the news, but the TV veteran insisted they must go on. “I said no, I need it. In the end, they dedicated the show to my dad, and that’s
a real example of how you are lifted by the energy of your friends,” he said.

Tom joined DWTS back in 2005 for the reality competition’s inaugural season. Today, he hosts alongside sportscaster Erin Andrews. “[It’s a] high-wire act of live television,” he said of emceecing the popular show, which is now in its 25th season. Though Tom is proud of his showbiz success, he noted being a wife to Lois and a father to daughters Samantha and Jessica brings him even more joy.

“Lois and I know we’re better together than solo,” he remarked. As for his two girls? “I feel very grateful to be their dad, and they make me proud pretty regularly,” Tom added. How sweet!
