Brian Unger spends a lot of time on the road filming his new Travel Channel series, Time Traveling With Brian Unger, so when he returns to his home in California’s San Fernando Valley, he wants to be able to kick back and relax — without any fuss.
“I’m accustomed to ‘airport lounge’ taste, because that’s where I spend most of my time,” Brian, 49, jokes with 'Closer.'

So when he was looking to move from Malibu three years ago (“I’d always wanted to be near the ocean, but no one visits you out there,” he says), this “clean and simple” midcentury
modern house was the perfect fit. “If it were anything more ornate than this, it would be difficult to maintain because I’m on the road so much.”

The home’s streamlined design wasn’t the only thing that caught Brian’s eye. “I took one look at how it was offset from the street with a steep staircase and instantly said, ‘I need to live there,’” he recalls. “I liked the privacy.”
Another plus for Brian was the openness and natural light that streams through the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath abode’s many glass walls. “It’s kind of like a big terrarium,” he says. “It’s always sunny in here!”
The 2,100-square-foot space and half-acre lot are also ideal for Brian’s best pals — his Great Dane, Bison, and his French mastiff, Louis. “The living room’s concrete floors were perfect for them, so I didn’t even look at the rest of the house!” he laughs. “I think you’re supposed to check water pressure and other things.”
