Actress Soleil Moon Frye has named her third child Lyric Sonny Roads, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise to those familiar with the star's fondness for unique baby names.
Lyric joins big sisters Jagger Joseph Blue, 8, and Poet Sienna Rose, 5. The baby boy was born on Feb. 10 and weighed over 9 lbs., the "Punky Brewster" star announced via Twitter.
Nothing like those first days of your new baby. I'm soaking it all in and I am in love.— soleil moon frye (@moonfrye) February 12, 2014
But Frye and producer husband Jason Goldberg are certainly not the first celebrities to experiment with unconventional baby names...nor will they likely be the last!
Take a look at these six celebrities who rewrote the rules on what constitutes a "name."
The Oscar winner named her third child Bear after choosing perfectly normal names for her first two children. Winslet has daughter Mia (though her middle name is Honey) with ex Jim Threapleton and son Joe Alfie with ex Sam Mendes. Maybe the actress' third husband, Ned Rocknroll, inspired the unconventional choice?
The blonde beauty had us all scratching our heads when she named her first child Apple...as in the fruit you pick up from the grocery store. The name was reportedly husband Chris Martin's idea, because the "Iron Man" actress had a whole lot of trouble trying to explain why they picked it! Clearly the public backlash had some sort of effect on the couple, because they named their second child Moses, a much more acceptable choice.
We're seeing a theme amongst Oscar winners! "The Last King of Scotland" star has three daughters named Sonnet, True and Autumn, plus a son named Ocean! I guess we can't blame a guy named Forest for not picking names like Sarah and Matthew.
When it was revealed that Beyonce and Jay-Z had named their first child Blue Ivy, many were left wondering what inspired the colorful moniker. But in fact, the Queen of R&B is not the first celebrity to claim the name! U2 guitarist The Edge named his third daughter Blue Angel back in 1989!
Clearly, the "Cougar Town" actress is an animal-lover! Philipps named her daughters with screenwriter Marc Silverstein Birdie Leigh and Cricket Pearl. Unlike Forest Whitaker, however, Philipps was not born with an unconventional name. Her real name is not Busy, but Elizabeth Jean.
The magician is dad to daughter Moxie CrimeFighter and son Zolten. According to Jillette, the name CrimeFighter stems from the 58-year-old's theory that no one ever uses their middle name, which is why Jillette and his wife had some fun with it. That still doesn't explain the first name Moxie, however.
