Simon Cowell's beloved mother has sadly passed away.
Julie Cowell died on Sunday, July 5, a family spokesperson confirmed to People. She was 89-years-old.
"Today our beloved mum Julie passed away. Anyone who had met her would know what a truly special and kind lady she was. We are heartbroken and will miss her terribly, but she is now at peace," a statement released by the 55-year-old X-Factor judge's family began.

"We would like to thank the media for kindly respecting Julie’s privacy throughout and we politely request continued privacy for the entire family at this particularly difficult time," the message read.

Though her cause of death has not yet been confirmed, one report stated she passed away after suffering a stroke.

The former ballet dancer and British socialite was a mother to four sons, Nicholas, Simon, Tony and Michael, and a step-mother to John and June Cowell.
Following the news of Julie's passing, Simon's brother Tony — who works as a journalist — took to his Twitter account to confirm his mother's death. "Very sad night tonight. We will all miss Mum so very much. She was the heart and soul of our family x," he wrote.
