Daniel von Bargen, an actor best known for his roles on Seinfeld and ‘Malcolm in the Middle,’ died on Sunday, March 1 after suffering from a long illness. He was 64-years-old.

“We are learning of this event at the same time as the rest of the industry and are deeply saddened to hear of Daniel’s loss,” his voice-over agents at Access Talent said in a statement on Wednesday, March 4.

Daniel — who portrayed George’s boss Mr. Kruger during season nine of ‘Seinfeld’ and Commandant Edwin Spangler on ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ — was reportedly diagnosed with diabetes in the years prior to his death.

In 2012, the star was hospitalized after a failed suicide attempt.

“For the past five years, he had been grappling with health issues that precluded his active pursuit of work,” Daniel’s former agents said of the actor, who also appeared in films ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ and ‘Super Troopers.’

“We remember him fondly for his easy-going professionalism and dry wit, both of which stood in stark contrast to the driven and near-maniacal roles he often performed with such energy and intensity. He was a joy to work with and we have missed that association since his semi-retirement to Cincinnati,” his agents told ‘People‘ magazine.
