Calling all Gladiators! Kerry Washington's power-wielding, white-hat-wearing superwoman alter ego, Olivia Pope, sadly won't be gracing our TV screens much longer. The Hollywood Reporter originally reported that Scandal will end after Season 7, and ABC has since confirmed the news.
"I used to know how it ended, and then Donald Trump was elected," creator Shonda Rhimes previously admitted regarding her vision for the series. "We had a destination, and I don't know if that's our destination anymore." ABC chief Channing Dungey told Entertainment Weekly, "I do think that audiences, especially fans and Gladiators, who are as loyal to Scandal as they’ve been, are going to want the story to end in the way that Shonda intended to. That was a decision she felt really good about and we support wholeheartedly."
But, Scandal star Scott Foley (who plays Liv's sometimes love-interest, Jake) joked that's he's not sure if Shonda knows how it'll end. "I have no idea idea... And I don’t know if she knows! Shhh," he admitted. "I hope that whatever happens, Olivia finds whatever it is she’s been looking for,” he added. “This season’s been all power. She’s the one with the power. She’s now head of B613 and she’s now running Mellie in the White House and she’s got this power, but I don’t know if she’s happy. I hope she finds happiness, whether that’s with Fitz in Vermont making jam, or with Jake, or with nobody, or with her dad or whatever it is. God, let her be happy!” Keep scrolling for more info about the end of Scandal!

Why is Scandal ending?
Ah, the million dollar question. Despite the fact that the political thriller is a success for ABC, Shonda always saw an ending for the show. Multiple sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she envisioned the show having seven seasons. During Season 4, she noted that it wasn't a "10 season or eight season show." She explained that one of the series' central plotlines — Olivia and Fitz's relationship — has to come to end (much to the dismay of fans).
"I think there's only so much Scandal you can tell satisfactorily," she said. "The Fitz-Liv thing can only be told so long and in such a way… I've already decided how long that is and what that's going to be."

The drama is building quickly, so the final season is bound to be a great one. Scandal might be part romance, but it would be nothing without its whip-smart political sabotage.
