For fans of the long-running ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy, next season may feel a little incomplete. That’s because fan-favorite Sandra Oh is leaving after 10 years on the series. Oh went on Katie to discuss her departure and who she is going to miss the most from the cast.
“It’s been a hard decision,” she shared, “but I felt like all the avenues that a character could possibly be explored…we have done.”
When Couric asked if she’ll miss seeing her costars everyday, Oh sighed and said, “I can’t even talk about it now because there’s still a lot more work to be done. But it really makes my heart full and heavy at the same time.”
Although the exit of her character Christina will surely affect everyone on the show, there is one person in particular who will feel her loss the greatest: Kevin McKidd who plays her on-screen husband Owen. Oh, who describes her costar as “dreamy,” said that not being able to work with McKidd everyday will be “extremely difficult.”
“We’ve spent a lot of time together and as we’ve gone through ups and downs as Christina and Owen, we’ve really bonded,” said Oh.
Though she still doesn’t know how she will be written off the show (Oh leaves the decision up to series creator Shonda Rhimes), she is excited about her future career moves. “I’m actually looking forward to going back to different mediums, films and theater,” she shared, though she will be “very, very sad” to go.
