Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, 44, remains hospitalized today after arriving at Bronovo Hospital in The Hague on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 28 to be treated for a kidney infection, back pain and fever.
"I've seen pictures, I've talked to her. She's doing well," the Dutch queen consort's husband, King Willem-Alexander, told reporters of his wife's condition.

Prior to her hospitalization, Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander, 48, were meeting with dignitaries in China during an official state visit. On Monday evening, Queen Maxima attended a glamorous state banquet in Beijing wearing a green-patterned gown and stunning emerald jewelry from the Dutch royal family's collection.

"I am proud of her, she really tried," King Willem-Alexander told the Dutch newspaper Telegraaf. "We thought it was the flu. But it turned out to be a kidney infection."
Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander — who married in February 2002 — are parents to three daughters, Catharina-Amalia, Princess of Orange, 11, Princess Alexia of the Netherlands, 10, and Princess Ariane of the Netherlands, 8. The royal couple ascended to the throne in April 2013.
