Days after Rosie O'Donnell's daughter went missing, the actress' dad, Edward Joseph O'Donnell, has sadly died after battling cancer.
The news of the 81-year-old's passing was confirmed by People on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 23.
Rosie, 53, and her father — who worked as an electrical engineer — had a strained relationship for years following the death of the comedienne's mother, Roseann O'Donnell, from breast cancer in March 1973.

"He had his own issues and demons, he had a very tough childhood, he had an alcoholic, abusive father and never really got the help that I think every person needs when they have lived through that as a child. I think that he had a lot of problems to deal with," the former The View star said of her dad in a 2012 interview.
Thankfully, the two were able to reconcile their relationship in previous years. "You get to be 50 years old you can't still be angry at what your father did in 1970," she continued. "You have to work it out for yourself and find a place for it in your life and not rehash it forever."
"No matter what, at the end of the day, every child loves their dad," Rosie added.
Edward is survived by Rosie, her four siblings and several grandchildren. Our thoughts are with Rosie and her family during this difficult time.
