Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster Relationship Timeline

It was meant to be! Rod Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster, have been married since 2007, but their love of course did not begin on the day they said “I do” — they have actually had quite the journey.

The 74-year-old and Penny 48, met 20 years ago, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. The pair share two kids, Alastair, 13, and Aiden, 8. And while these were the first two children for Penny, it wasn’t for the “Maggie May” singer.

The legendary rocker had six kids — Sarah, 56, Kimberly, 39, Sean, 38, Ruby, 31, Renée, 26, and Liam, 24 — from four different relationships — Quite the family! However, today, Rod and Penny have their hands full taking care of their own little ones, all while spending time with each other.

They meet! January 1999

“I got an invitation to go to a concert and photograph him,” Penny, a professional photographer, said during an interview on Loose Women of how she met her future husband.

“When we first met, I got her phone number — I had just broken up,” Rod chimed in with. “I gave it to the bass player … and he kept it for six months!” he added, explaining that his bandmate didn’t think he was ready to date again.

“And then I called you,” he said, while looking at his love.

First date, August 1999

“‘I’m in town. Why don’t we catch up over dinner with some friends of mine? Oh, and bring along the photos,'” the hitmaker recalled to Daily Mail of his first call to Penny. “I was immediately struck by her fresh face and girlish demeanor,” Rod said upon seeing her on their first date.

“It was a long time before we kissed for the first time. It happened at my house one afternoon, after tea,” Rod said, adding that it was an “upside-down kiss.” “I walked round until I was directly behind her, on the other side of the bed, put my hands on her shoulders, leaned forward and kissed her,” he added.

First child together, November 2005

A couple of months after Penny said “yes” to Rod’s marriage proposal, the pair had their first child together, a boy they named Alastair. Today, their eldest child looks so much like his dad the singer thinks he should play him in a movie.

“My Alastair said gotta make [a biopic] about you! Because I can play a younger you. I’d love to cooperate!” Rod revealed his boy said during an appearance on the British talk show This Morning.

I do! June 2007

The pair walked down the aisle in a summer wedding in Italy. They exchange vows in front of friends and family. Rod once revealed that he was never going to get marry again — that is until he met Penny. What changed his mind? “She’s adorable … she’s irresistible,” he said on Loose Women.
